The mission of the Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation is to provide resources that offer genuine opportunities for Tribal communities. We will work as partners to tackle the troubling realities facing so many Tribes across our country. The Foundation utilizes the national platform of professional sports organizations and their partners to address the challenges in the daily lives of Native Americans based on what Tribal leaders tell us they need most.
100% of our revenue is spent on qualifying contributions, and during our first two years in existance roughly 93% of our spending was allocated directly to the operation of our charitable programs. When you decide to become a donor of the Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation, your charitable contribution will enable us to continue to live out our mission.
History & Values
The Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation was founded in 2014 as a private foundation by Washington Redskins' owner Dan Snyder. We already rank among the largest philanthropic organizations dedicated to benefiting Native American tribal communities in the United States. Prior to establishing the Foundation, Dan Snyder and his staff spent 4 months visiting 26 tribal communities across 20 states to listen and learn first-hand about the views, attitudes, and experiences of Native American Tribes. It became painfully apparent to the members of the Redskins organization that inclusion and opportunities were far too scarce throughout much of Indian Country. The learning experience of those initial visits, and the experiences we continue to gain as our work expands, guides us every day as we work together with tribes to create a brighter future in their communities.
Throughout Indian Country, poverty and unemployment are rampant and impact the quality of life across a continuum --- from the most basic daily needs of food, water, clothing, and shelter to more complex needs like education, healthcare, and community development. We are committed to partnering with tribes in areas such as economic development, education and youth activity programs, and health and community services in order to respond to quality of life needs. While we have seen the benefits achieved by projects in these focus areas, we remain flexible and open to new ideas about positively impacting the communities where we work.
At the Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation, we not only provide financial resources, but we also extend a helping hand in partnership with tribal communities. Our pledge to increase inclusion and opportunities is furthered when we create awareness through information sharing about tribal community needs. What we can achieve together far exceeds what we can achieve alone. All of our partners, from the tribes we work with, to the companies who make our work possible, to donors big and small, are an integral part in improving the quality of life in Native American tribal communities.
