Partnership with NFL and Riddell Provides New Football Helmets to Indian Country

October 02, 2017

The Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation has completed its second year of the Safer Helmets for Tribal Youth program. Made possible through partnerships with Riddell and the National Football League, the program has resulted in 77 separate helmet donations to 61 different schools in Native American communities. Over 1,000 new, state-of-the-art Riddell football helmets have been provided at no cost to the schools.

"By having the new helmets, we were able to spend some money on other equipment to meet the needs of our players. The greatest benefit however was we were able to put all our players in high quality helmets from the 9th-12th grades! This helped create an excitement and increased enthusiasm throughout the entire Bobcat Football program. Thank you for the generous donation and support of the young people in our community!”

Bob Allcorn, Head Football Coach, Bloomfield HS - Bloomfield, NM

“Thank you so much to the Redskins Foundation for the opportunity to partner with you to make the game and our team safer. As a small school of 25-35 players a year and only receiving $500.00 a year from our school, we couldn't do it without organizations like you. It has meant the world to our kids to have quality, safe equipment.”

Arthur Adair, Head Football Coach, Monticello HS - Monticello, UT

“The Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation Safer Helmet Program has been a blessing for our team this year.  Having the peace of mind that you are putting a safe helmet on your players helps the parents, administrators, coaches, and kids, all rest a little easier...This program along with the camps that we attended this summer were a big reason our team had a turn around of 2-7 to 7-3 and made the playoffs for the first time in 5 years.”

Bob Kornely, Head Football Coach, Todd County HS - Mission, SD

“The donation of helmets to the Holbrook High School Football program has been invaluable to us. Our district is in a very poor area of Arizona…The generous donation from WROAF allows us to bring in top of the line helmets for our athletes to use. Our football program operates on a very tight budget and the new helmets help us to keep our equipment inventory fresh and allow our athletes to play in safe equipment.”

Kelly Kinghorn, Head Football Coach, Holbrook HS - Holbrook, AZ

“We have greatly benefited from the helmet donation. It has allowed us to equip our players with much better helmets than we had before. We don’t get much money to buy things like new helmets, so we are very grateful for being allowed to equip our players with top of the line helmets…We are very thankful.”

Rusty Hall, Head Football Coach, McLoud HS - McLoud, OK
